Smart Soldering Iron Cap is Too Hot
The cap of your Smart Soldering Iron is becoming excessively hot.
Remember to Turn Off the Power Switch
The switch should always be turned off when soldering is finished. The Smart Soldering Iron cap is designed to contain heat from a tip that is cooling down from full operating temp. However, if the iron is continuously outputting heat, the cap will eventually heat up on the outside. At around 10 minutes of continuous heating from an iron set to 750°F (~400°C) the cap will reach an outer temp of around 185°F (~85°C). That's pretty dang hot!
Leaving your soldering iron on and in idle mode when not actively sitting down to solder can result in premature tip wear and excessive heat to the cap.
Idle/Sleep Settings Disabled
If you configured your FixHub to not go into idle/sleep mode, or extended the inactive time required for the FixHub to go into idle/sleep mode, your soldering iron may be outputting full available power within the cap.
Also, be aware that using the Smart Soldering Iron with power outputs less than or equal to 20W will automatically disable the idle/sleep features to allow the iron to reach full operating temperature. Be sure to turn the power switch off when switching power sources, as plugging your iron into a computer to configure settings could drop below the 20W threshold.
Here's a list of the configurable settings available through the FixHub, as well as a link to the FixHub Web Console (to change settings for the iron when a FixHub Power Station is not available).
